Jadranka Pastries would like to invite you to come and enjoy a collection of paintings by the artist Ellen Watley, M.A. Opening is taking place on February 26, 2012 between 12:00 and 2:00pm About the Artists – Ellen Watley, M.A. Ellen, born in Germany, has made her home in Toronto for the past 65 years.

She raised four children with her husband John and had many successful working careers including real estate sales, ownership and management of two restaurants and clinical counselling.
Her creative eye initially played out in the kitchen where her accomplishments as a cook and creator of attractive entertainment foods (produced for home business gatherings, this would now be called catering!) resulted in a published cookbook called Food, Glorious Food. Ellen’s foray in to art came 20 years ago when Ellen’s husband became ill. She realized she needed to have an engaging hobby as the focus on work reduced. Though she was told as a child that ‘she can’t draw’, she signed up for water colour classes at the now defunct McGill Club and was delighted to find her new preoccupation. From water colours to acrylics and finally landing on pastels as her preferred medium, Ellen has truly demonstrated that art can be learned and provide immense satisfaction to the artist as well as those fortunate enough to house one of her pieces. Landscapes, painting after master originals, pets and family portraits are her favourite subjects. When friends or family members drop by to visit, she is usually found deep in ‘smudge land’- her favourite technique in pastel drawing.
